For the past 20 years the mission of the Downtown Alliance (DTA) has been to encourage business and retail growth in downtown Fayetteville and to promote the success of downtown businesses. This includes advocating for improving the image of downtown Fayetteville, improving access to downtown businesses, coordinating merchant promotions, marketing and activities downtown, creating a unified voice to ensure that the MSD tax is used appropriately to enhance downtown development and benefit all downtown merchants and property owners equally, identifying problems and working together as a group to bring about their resolution.
Last year we transitioned back to an all-volunteer organization and our mission can only be achieved with the commitment of people like you. We are asking that you help us continue our mission by joining this long-standing association. The Downtown Alliance will continue efforts to make downtown a place where small businesses can start out, grow, and thrive. There will always be problems that need to be addressed. As always, the Downtown Alliance is willing to tackle those problems. The greater our numbers, the greater our strength and the more likely we will succeed in our efforts.
Some of our work this past year:
Paid parking- we gathered petition signatures in person and online. Had numerous meetings with the city manager, staff, and the mayor. Presented our case against the paid proposal and though paid parking will be put into place sometime in the future, we successfully had Saturdays removed from the paid schedule.
Created a monthly forum for member businesses to listen to their concerns- Wine and Whine ? Hired 2 well respected social media consultants – created ongoing business spotlights ? Coordinated promotions aimed to bring business downtown
Partnered with CCSD on events and initiatives- Clueville,
Pre-Covid – Brought local speakers to meetings to speak on matters that affect business during the monthly business meeting.
Sought better solutions against aggressive panhandling
Post Covid- Joined CSDD as one voice to work on curbside delivery and marketing. And creating a downtown-wide Yiftee gift card program
The coming year is expected to be a challenging one as we work to navigate a new business climate we have never seen before. Our committees are membership/outreach, marketing/social media, promotion/planning and advocacy/community action. Please consider volunteering on a committee that interests you.
